Ami

Karen Ami was born in Chicago and raised in Indiana and Illinois. She is a graduate of The Boston Museum School, Tufts University (BFA, 1986) and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (MFA, 1995) majoring in ceramics and sculpture. In 2005, she founded The Chicago Mosaic School- the only Mosaic Arts school in the Americas.  In addition to her art practice, Ami teaches and lectures internationally and is a sought after curator. Ami exhibits her sculptures, drawings and mosaics in exhibitions here and abroad, most recently in Japan for the Kyoto International Mosaic Exhibition and in Chicago, with artist Pamela Irving at GoCM for “Savage Curiosities”.  She was awarded first prize in the Prix Picassiette International Exhibition in 2014, and in 2015 The Museum of Bibical Art, Dallas Texas acquired her mosaic work, “TEN”, for their permanent collection.
